On December 11, 2024, at the 2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Business Development Conference, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) signed cooperation agreements with Hong Kong Bar Association, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Faculty of Law of the City University of Hong Kong, and the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau. The signing ceremony was held with the esteemed presence of Gao Yunlong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Zhang Shaogang, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); Yin Zonghua, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and Huang Mingzhong, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangdong Provincial government. The event was witnessed by over 1,000 representatives from government departments, business and legal sectors across more than 20 countries and regions, marking a milestone in promoting legal collaboration in the Greater Bay Area.

The cooperation agreements signed between CIETAC and professional legal service institutions in Hong Kong, as well as renowned universities in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, aim to establish multi-faceted and institutionalized collaboration. These agreements seek to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the arbitration and legal communities in Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, strive to promote Hong Kong’s development as the leading international legal and dispute resolution hub in the Asia-Pacific region, and cultivate high-quality and practical international legal talent to support the future development of the Greater Bay Area. These efforts will contribute to building a market-oriented, rule-of-law based, and internationalized business environment in the Greater Bay Area, fostering the high-quality and sustainable development.
